Faculty Courses and Free Electives

The sophomore year will be offering further foundation development more related to the fields of interest through so-called Faculty Courses offered by each faculty. These courses are aimed at developing a strong foundation in the basic disciplines relevant for further specialisation in different major areas.

The major declaration will be at the end of the second academic year and the third and fourth year of undergraduate education will allow students to concentrate on their fields of interest through so-called area electives, some of which may be required in order to fulfil the requirements of the particular degree program.

IUS will encourage students in their quest for interdisciplinary education by offering the possibility to select a certain number of courses from any field that is taught at IUS or could be acquired through student exchange with other universities. The so-called free electives will vary from faculty to faculty and may even vary among programs at the same faculty but no program at IUS will be set without any free electives.

In order to graduate from a degree program, the student must fulfil the faculty requirements for Faculty Courses.
