ADMISSION AND ACADEMIC CRITERIA

 

A valid high school diploma is needed for acceptance to IUS. An international certificate of English proficiency (like TOEFL) is needed to begin the freshman year. Alternatively, a student can take the Language Assessment Exam given by IUS. Students without sufficient knowledge of English Language will have to take the intensive English Language Program. Applicants from Bosnia must take the IUS Entrance Exam.

 

Applicants from other countries are evaluated on the basis of their high school performance and an interview. Turkish applicants are accepted based on their recent ÖSS scores. IUS may ask candidates from outside Bosnia to take a Student Selection and Placement Test in case of excessive applications or for eligibility to financial support. Transfer students from other universities or colleges are encouraged to apply with official transcripts.

 

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

 

IUS welcomes students from all over the world. The university offers a peaceful learning and sharing environment to students from all countries, languages and cultures. There is nearby accomodation at affordable prices. Write to info@ius.edu.ba for details on travel, accomodation, food and prices. Foreign students will also be learning Bosnian language for basic communication with the local community. Courses for learning a second language can be provided as electives in case of sufficient demand. Admission of students will be based on academic performance as measured by high school transcript and interviews. (Turkish students are ranked based on ÖSS results. Those without valid or recent ÖSS results may apply with accepted international exam scores like SAT. Every IUS student is assigned an academic advisor who will be responsible to guide the student not only for academic matters but will also be helping him/her for personal needs and problems.

In accordance with the Article 82 and Article 83 of the Law on Higher Education (Official Gazette of Sarajevo Canton, 43/08, 18/10 International University of Sarajevo on August 13, 2010, announces the following:


COMPETITION (ANNOUNCEMENT)


for enrollment students in the first year of first study cycle

at the organizational units of the International University of Sarajevo in 2010/2011 academic year


International University of Sarajevo (,,IUS") in academic year 2010/2011 will enroll in the first year of first study cycle 470 students in total, of which 120 will be from Bosnia and Herzegovina and 350 students foreign citizens. Admission to IUS can be performed at one of the following faculties:


I           Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences will enroll 140 students in total, of which 100 students will be foreign citizens and 40 students will be citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the following study programs/departments:


-  Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design..........................................90 students


-  Social and Political Sciences..........................................................................50 students


II          Faculty of Business and Administration will enroll 110 students in total, of which 80 students will be foreign citizens and 30 students will be citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the following study programs/departments:


-  Economics.........................................................................................................30 students


-  Management/Leadership Studies......................................................................40 students


-  International and Public Relations.................................................................40 students


Ill       Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences will enroll 220 students in total, of which 170 students will be foreign citizens and 50 students will be citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the following study programs/departments:


-  Biological Sciences and Bioengineering......................................................65 students


-  Computer Sciences and Engineering............................................................55 students


-  Industrial Engineering....................................................................................50 students


-  Microelectronics.............................................................................................50 students


Teaching at faculties of IUS will be performed in English language. Normal (usual) period for completing the faculty if four years or eight semesters.


Study at IUS is organized by Bologna principles study and in accordance with study model 4+1+3.


Graduate students receive a bilingual diploma, in Bosnian and in English language.


Annual tuition fees at IUS for students who are Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens is 3.850,00 Euros and for students who are not Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens is 5.500,00 Euros. Tuition fees can be paid in several installments. IUS will provide certain number of scholarships (as discount on amount of tuition fees) for students who achieved exceptional success in previous education.


 


Right to take a part in competition have, under the same conditions, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and foreign citizens with finished four-year high school in Bosnia and Herzegovina, just as applicants who finished high school out of Bosnia and Herzegovina and if it is claimed, after nostrification, respectfully, equivalence procedure, that they had finished suitable education to continue the study.                                                            


 


Admission and enrollment of applicants in the first study year will be preceded by special committee appointed by authorized body of higher education institution.


At IUS is not prescribed passing of entrance exam. Ranking and election of applicants in the first study year at some of the study programs/departments at IUS, at which applicant applied, will be done based on success achieved in high school (four-year high school with matriculation) with lowest average rating equal to or higher than 60 in a scale from 0 to 100, or in numeric rating scale of 3 or more in number scale from 1 to 5.


If the number of applicants who fulfilled formal conditions for enrollment is higher than the determined number for enrollment at the faculties at IUS, priority will be given to applicants who achieved more points on achieved success in high school.


 


Besides all mentioned above, forming a final ranking list of applicants will be effected by success achieved in high school, in certain courses and areas significant for relevant study.  Ranking list and examination of relevant courses and areas will be done as follows:                                                                                           


- For enrollment of applicants at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences will be considered success in courses of area of arts and social sciences;    


- For enrollment of applicants at the Faculty of Business and Administration will be considered success achieved in courses of area of economic sciences;     


- For enrollment of applicants at the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences will be considered success achieved in courses of area of natural and technical sciences.                                         

 

Applicants who achieved right on enrollment are to pass English Language Test. Those candidates who fulfill conditions for enrollment and did not successfully pass English Language Test will be admitted at IUS as student with commitment to achieve needed level of English through especially organized preparatory English Language School at IUS, which lasts two semesters, with twenty hours of English language classes per week. This is paying separately and with student is concluded a contract.


For enrollment in the first year of undergraduate study at IUS, applicants are obliged to  submit the following documents with application:


1.      Application form for enrollment with précised faculty (and study program/department)to which they apply (available at www.ius.edu.ba or Student Affairs Office)


2.              Original diploma of finished high school,  


3.      Original certificates from I to IV grade of high school (Nostrified diploma for applicants who achieved high school diploma out of Bosnia and Herzegovina or the certificate that nostrification process was started),


4.              Certificate from register of births and certificate on citizenship or passport copy if applicant is not citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina,


5.              Two photos, size 6X4,


6.              Medical check-up certificate, not older than six months (to be delivered when signing).


Incomplete and late applications will not be taken into consideration.


Applications with needed documents should be delivered personally (each working day, in period from 09.00 until 17.00), to IUS Student Affairs Office or by registered mail to address:

Announcement is opened for 15 (fifteen) days after the day of its publishing.


Preliminary ranking list of all applicants who applied and who are accepted at faculties, IUS will publish at announcement board and web-site, latest two days after the deadline for application submission expires.                                                                             


Applicants have right of complaint to preliminary ranking list in three days after it is published.         


Final list of enrolled students at the faculties will be published latest eight days after publishing preliminary ranking list.  


Enrollment of accepted students will be done in period from September 13 until September 17, 2010.
