“Scout leader education” seminar held at IUS
Following the signing
of the agreement on cooperation between the International University of Sarajevo and Scout Federation of Turkey in September
2009, three member delegation of Turkish scouts visited our University in the period from January 14th to 17th 2010. The
delegation was comprised of the Head of the Federation Mr. Hasan Dinçer Subaşi, Head of the education department of the
Federation Mr. Türker Özay and Mr. Ertuğrul Tacgin – a former IUS Rector.
The reason of the
visit was “Scout leader education” seminar that was organized jointly by the IUS Scout Club and Scout Federation of Turkey.
During the seminar IUS students had the opportunity to learn more about the scouting, its meaning, aims, hierarchy, methods of
scouting education, scout songs, games, etc. And although the seminar did not go very deep into the issues of scouting,
participants could learn the most important basics.
The importance of
this seminar can be summarized in the words of Mr. Hüseyin Hayri Nuroğlu, the coordinator of the IUS Scout Club curricular
activity: “Some types of education can not be given by schools or parents and in these modern times youth are separated from
the nature. In scouting we aim to give that kind of education to youth, an education that will make them good citizens in
their countries”.
At the end of the
seminar, all those who passed the final scouting exam were given certificate by the Scout Federation of Turkey which allows
them to attend all activities organized by this federation.
As Mr. Nuroğlu said
the IUS Scout Club will continue with its activities in the following semester. It is envisaged that IUS Students that passed
through the Scout Club will establish cooperation with BH primary schools with an aim of making scout clubs for pupils.
Activities like hiking, scout camps are also planned for the up-coming period.
