Project Description:
This new interdisciplinary research is carried out by the Urban Observatory within the Department of Contemporary Studies of Ifpo, with the support of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (2015-2017). Its object is to study in which manner, in times of conflict, the themes usually studied in heritage issues can be studied as their inverted version: from a construction producing social or spatial links, heritage becomes a locus of destruction, from being a process of rebirth of certain forms of heritage, it becomes its negation. Its legitimacy born of the very consequences of the Lebanese civil war, given that it was created out of the need to observe and study the country’s reconstruction, the Urban Observatory is considering a specific and scientific research project which will be innovative through its comparative and common to several countries character, on the subject of the manner in which the Mediterranean forms of heritage are affected by political violence and post-conflict contexts.
