Understanding Early Modern to 20th Century Western History through the Lens of High Art and Music
This presentation will look at how socio-political history can be connected to the styles of high art and music produced during each specific istorical epoch. I will discuss the Baroque Era, the Classical Era, the Romantic Era, and the Early 20th century Avant Garde eras of art and music. I will then onnect each movement, in terms of form and content, to larger political and social events of each era. The deeper motif of this presentation earkens back to the classic aesthetic question: does art shape life or does life shape art?
