International Relations Office (IRO)

International Relations Office (IRO) is the official department of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) primarily in charge of promoting the University abroad and implementing its internationalization policy. The activities of the IUS International Relations Office include:

  • promoting and encouraging the exchange of students, academic and administrative staff (through Mevlana, Erasmus+ and other exchange programs),
  • signing of cooperation agreements,
  • organizing lectures and visits of guests from all around the world, and
  • other activities for the purpose of internationalization of the University.

Through the International Relations Office, IUS increased its international recognition and attractiveness of new forms of mobility. The Office progressively carried out negotiations to sign Erasmus+ agreements in various fields of study with prominent universities from different regions of Europe and Turkey. By the beginning of 2016, there are - 53 protocols signed on cooperation with universities, institutions, centers and companies from around the world, and through exchange programs Mevlana and Erasmus+ - 90 bilateral agreements. By signing these bilateral agreements, IUS gained rights to mobility of students as well as academic and administrative staff working in different scientific areas.

Exchange programs are designed in a way to give the opportunity to students and academic staff to study, teach and do research at an university abroad. Students signed up to spend one or two semesters on the exchange and professors had the opportunity to spend from one to two weeks. The exchange will enable them to improve their knowledge and skills, exchange experiences, and express their quality and internationally. Also, thanks to agreements signed in the coming academic year, IUS expects arrival of foreign students and professors who will share their knowledge and expertise with IUS staff. The mobility of administrative staff and their professional development is also provided. Coordinated by the Office, a record number of applicants - 80 people - 57 students and 23 academic and administrative staff - participated on exchange in the academic year 2015/16.

The International Relation Office has been also organizing lectures for students, staff and other guests called "Ambassador Talk". Lectures are held by current Ambassadors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as senior officials of international organizations and renowned institutions and prominent individuals - internationally recognized experts. Through these lectures, we try to bring exceptional and qualified teachers who are truly competent and who can make a considerable contribution in the field of their activities in a way that will inform IUS students, as well as wider audience, about the current global trends, social, economic, political and cultural situation and activities in the world. So far, we have welcomed ambassadors from a lot of countries, such as Turkey, Italy, France, Sweden, Japan, Egypt, Indonesia, Chad etc.
