Transfer Students

This regulation governs the recognition of courses and ECTS credits for students transferring from other universities to IUS (external transfer), changing study programs within IUS (internal transfer), or holding pre-Bologna Master’s degrees. It also outlines the recognition of ECTS credits from exchange programs.

Students who have completed part of their studies at another higher education institution can apply for the transfer of courses and credits, provided that:
  • The course content is not significantly different from IUS courses.
  • The learning outcomes, knowledge, and competencies do not substantially differ from those at IUS.
  • The transfer applies to ECTS credits only, not to grades.
Based on the transferred ECTS credits, students are enrolled in the following study years:
  • Freshman: Less than 48 ECTS
  • Sophomore: At least 48 ECTS
  • Junior: At least 108 ECTS
  • Senior: At least 168 ECTS
Documents Required:
  • Letter of intent
  • Official transcript of grades (in English)
  • Official course descriptions (syllabi, etc., presenting course content)
  • Additional documentation might be required, depending on each application.
Deadline: Applications must be submitted at least 30 days prior to course registration. Failure to do so may result in a delay in enrollment.
Submission: Submit your application online - click the button below!
Important: This step is an informal initial contact. Formal applications are submitted as hard copies of the documents to the Student Affairs Office.

  • The commission responsible for the procedure may decline to recognize conditionally passed courses and courses completed over 10 years ago.
  • If 60 or more ECTS credits are transferred, the commission may grant exemption from passing all or some university courses.
  • The maximum number of credits that can be transferred to IUS is as follows:
    1. 120 ECTS credits for the first study cycle (for all candidates except international Turkish students).
    2. 70 ECTS credits for the first study cycle (for international Turkish students).
    3. 18 ECTS credits for the second study cycle.
    4. 60 ECTS credits for the third study cycle.
  • Students are allowed to change study programs up to two times during their studies, subject to quota availability.
  • The student’s scholarship is revised and communicated before the conclusion of the process.
  • Only relevant courses (credits and grades) are transferred to the new program.
  • The application process starts at the Student Affairs Office.
  • A maximum of 30 ECTS credits can be transferred per semester, with a total of 60 ECTS credits allowed in the first study cycle (including up to 12 ECTS from summer semester exchanges).
  • Failure to properly complete the Learning Agreement form may result in the inability to transfer courses.

Holders of a Master of Arts/Science degree earned prior to the implementation of the Bologna system in Bosnia and Herzegovina may request recognition of up to 60 ECTS credits for PhD studies. However, recognition will not be granted for transfers from structurally or scientifically different programs.

Joint or interdisciplinary programs with other institutions may have different transfer regulations, depending on the specific agreements.
