Lab Technician I (1 position, m/f)

Position Title:

Lab Technician I at the Research Development Center (RDC)

Required Qualifications:

• University degree in Bioengineering, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or a related field; 
• Strong knowledge of molecular biology techniques, laboratory safety procedures, preventive measures, and best laboratory practices; 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, as well as experience working with database systems; 
• Previous experience as a Laboratory Technician or in a similar role is highly desirable;
• Experience in handling and operating both electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment, as well as working with potentially hazardous materials, including flammable substances, infectious agents, and biohazardous materials; 
• Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken, is required; 
• Knowledge of additional foreign languages is considered an advantage; 
• Minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in planning and conducting controlled experiments, laboratory analyses, and research activities;
• Collect, prepare, process, and test samples in accordance with established laboratory procedures;
• Record, analyze, and maintain accurate records of laboratory data and results, both in electronic and hard-copy formats;
• Perform laboratory tests in accordance with standard operating procedures, make observations, and interpret findings;
• Demonstrate laboratory procedures and provide technical guidance and support to laboratory users and staff;
• Present laboratory findings and results to senior staff and management when required;
• Maintain, calibrate, clean, sterilize, and regularly test laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality and compliance with quality standards;
• Operate and handle laboratory equipment and potentially hazardous materials in a safe and responsible manner;
• Receive, label, store, and analyze various types of samples, including biological, chemical, toxicological, and tissue samples;
• Ensure the proper organization, storage, and handling of chemicals, laboratory reagents, compressed gases, biological materials, and other laboratory substances in accordance with safety regulations;
• Conduct risk assessments and contribute to the development and implementation of laboratory safety procedures;
• Ensure strict compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and laboratory regulations and standards;
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly laboratory environment at all times;
• Monitor inventory levels, order laboratory supplies, and maintain adequate stock of equipment, reagents, and consumables;
• Keep abreast of relevant scientific, technical, and technological developments in the field;
• Assist in training and supervising laboratory staff, students, and research assistants, as required;
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the laboratory and provide support in achieving the objectives of research and development projects.

Reporting Line:

For the performance of their duties and responsibilities, the employee shall be accountable to the RDC Manager and the Rector.

• The selection process will include a preliminary assessment of the qualifications, skills, and motivation of shortlisted candidates.
• The successful candidate will be offered a one-year fixed-term employment contract, including a six-month probationary period.
